More than any other natural environment, our knowledge about the oceans benefits from space technology. Oceans cover 70% of our planet, and are unknown territories that are difficult to access. The oceans are key players that regulate climate on our planet. 60% of the world’s population lives in coastal areas or is directly dependent on the sea. Satellites not only bring observations (ocean dynamics, physico-chemical evolution, marine biology …), but also provide support technologies for maritime professionals, such as skippers (location, routing, weather forecast , telecommunications, safety …).

Satellites are key technologies to monitor the safety of people and property by providing location and data collection products and services. Finally, they attest to the values of the Vendée Globe, such as surpassing oneself, going into the unknown… and stimulate inspiration, motivation and commitment.
