SOH Imoca60 left Newport: Nándor has started his solo qualification back to Les Sables d’Olonne

Instead of his planned three-days stay in Newport, Nándor Fa decided to start off after only two days on his single-handed qualification transat from Newport back to Les Sables d’Olonne, France. The reason for his sudden decision was the inauspicious weather forecast, which had promised very light wind conditions for the days coming and thus the only possibility for Nándor to catch the last “train” was to hoist sails immediately.

Nándor called the SOH shore team to announce his decision at 23:00 GMT+2 time (in Hungary). He completed all the necessary exit procedures from the USA, and informed the  race organizer of the Vendée Globe that he is about to start his solo qualification. A short hour after the phone call he had sailed out of the Newport Shipyard.
